Why it worked

The old Infuse gave an ally mana at no cost to Soraka herself, so she worked as a battery that never emptied. Add a heal on a short cooldown and a lane with her in it could no longer be won by attrition — it took a kill. Wish topped that off by healing the whole team from anywhere on the map.
