Why it worked

Aegis Protection blocked incoming auto-attacks on a counter, which left him effectively immune to the whole early game. Heartseeker Strike crit automatically on anything under 15 % health, so his execute worked without a single item. From minute six, Grand Skyfall dropped him onto any lane on the map.
