Why it worked

The old Ragnarok made him immune to every form of crowd control while it ran, something no other champion in the game could say. Reckless Swing dealt flat true damage on a short cooldown, so armour stopped mattering at level one. Vicious Strikes gave him lifesteal that rose as his own health fell.
