Why it worked

Focus made the first shot out of stealth a guaranteed crit, and Infinity Edge pushed that guarantee up to 250 % damage. The standard opener was two Phantom Dancers, because crit chance ran uncapped back then and the attack speed came along for free. Reach level 11 with that line and Ashe simply subtracted one carry per fight.
